DOG HOLLOW SPEEDWAY OFFICIAL 2008 LATE MODEL RULES! 1. Eligible Models: American Manufactured body styles only. No Pick-ups, sports cars, jeeps, convertibles, station wagons, sun roofs or T-tops. 2. Frames: A) Wheel-base 103" on both sides. B) No aluminum frames or front clips may be used in the construction of any car. C) Must be constructed out of a minimum of 2" x 2" square tubing with a minimum of 8" circumference and a minimum of .083 wall thickness recommended. D) Round tube cars are permitted. Minimum of 1 3/4" O.D. 4130 Chrome-Moly is highly recommended. 3. Rollcages: A) Cars must have a suitable steel roll cage in the drivers compartment, including a head rest. B) Side roll bars are mandatory and must extend into the door panels. C) A minimum of three bars must be used on the left side of the car with four being recommended. Each bar must be at least 1 1/2" O.D. with a minimum recommended wall thickness of at least .095". All bars having gussets or equivalent circumference to that of the frame rail. All welds should be gusseted. D) Roll cages must be welded to the frames and gussets for additional strength. 4. Interiors: A) Floor boards, bulkhead and firewalls must cover the driver's area and be constructed to provide maximum safety. B) Driver's seat must remain in the same general area as the general design and the area to the right of the driver must provide ample room for exiting in case of an accident or emergency. At no point can door(s) sides break in toward the center of the car. C) Interior may be dropped to the middle of the car no more than 3" below the top of the doors and must be at least 12" below the roll cage. D) Interiors must gradually taper to the quarter panel height and be level for 32" from the rear of the quarter panel. E) Interior must be fastened flush at the top of the doors and quarter panels and may taper gradually towards the center of the car not creating a lip effect with a minimum of 8" taper. F) Interior must run in a straight line from behind the drivers seat to the rear spoiler. G) If the interior is flat through out the car is must maintain a 12" clearance from the roll cage for easy exiting from either side of the car. 5. Bodies: Homemade bodies are permittedbut must meet the following dimentions any further dimentions or body descriptions please refer to STARS rules. STARS BODIES ARE ALLOWED Height: A) Ground to top of roof 45 degree minimum B) Ground to tope of rear of body: not to exceed 36 inches C) Ground to top of spoiler: 41 inch minimum Width: A) Not to exceed 76 inches B) Not to exceed 82 inches at bottom of doors C) Width at front and rear end 72 inches Roof must be a least 48 inches wide and 41 inches long. Spoiler: A) Should be made of clear or transparent material. B) Height: 8 inches maximum C) Width: 72 inches maximum D) Spoiler will be measured at end of trunk to end of spoiler. We lay the ruler on the car body and measure the spoiler flat to its end. We wrap the tape measure around the surface. The wing side boards must not exceed STARS dimensions. A) No greater that 18 inches long B) 8 inches in the rear. C) 2 ½ inches in the front. D) To extend the forwards no more than 8 inches then tapering to 2 ½ inches in front. E) No more than 3 wings. H)No fins or raised lipsof any kind permitted anywhere, the entire length of the car. Roof line must remain level or in stock position, with the window opening close to stock. Each car must have a full hood and roof with presentable lines.
D) Door/window openings must be a minimum of 12" in vertical height from the top of the interior to the lowest point on both sides. All windows must remain open but may have a drivers window net added for the added protection of the driver. Exception: Vent windows are permitted for windshield post support. But they must be in a triangular configuration. Maximum 1 1/2" by 1 1/2" windshield screen must be used to adequately protect the driver. E) No driver controlled suspension adjustment devices. F) Each car must have a tow hook on the front and rear and that tow hook must be easily accessible. The front tow hook must be on the outside of the body of the car. 6. Weight: All cars must weigh a minimum of 2300 pounds with the driver after the race. 9. Spoilers: A) Must be manufactured out of a transparent material, such as Lexan, and you must be able to see through it. B) The maximum spoiler width is 8" x 72" long. (See the drawing) this is measured from the rear deck lid to the tip of the material. C) The spoiler can not be suspended above the rear deck to create a wing effect. It also can not be louver. D) Spoilers must begin where the quarter panel ends. No extended decks. 10. Appearance: A) Cars must be numbered and lettered in an acceptable manner. All numbers must be 18" high and located on both doors and roof. The scorers will have the final word on color combination and schemes. 11. Engines: A) Engines must be based on a factory design and be naturally aspirated. I) No fuel injection devices, super or turbo chargers or blowers permitted. II) One (1) four barrel carburetor. B) Any V-8 engine is permitted with no cubic inch displacement limitation. C) V-6's are permitted, but the rear of the V-6 block must be in the same location as a V-8. I) Maximum engine set-back: V-8's is six inches (6") from the center of the ball joint to the front spark plug hole. D) The engine must have an operational (working) self starter and clutch. E) Aluminum blocks are legal. G) All engines are limited to one spark and two valves per cylinder. H) Each car must have the exhaust system exit parallel to the ground. Any muffler or insert may be used
12 Fuel systems: A) Any fuel (Gas or Alcohol). No nitrous oxide or other nitrate gases. Also no oxidizers of any kind. B) An approved fuel cell with bladder must be securely mounted in the trunk area of the car inside a minimum of a 20-gauge metal box supported by a minimum of two (2) 1/8" thick by 2" wide steel straps. C) A fire wall must be installed between the driver's compartment and the fuel cell. 13. Bumper/Rub Rails: A) Must be securely fastened to the front and rear bumpers. If rub rails are used, they must be attached flush with the body panel contour. Cars may not have any bars that are outside of the body panels. 14. Drivetrain: A) Must have an operational (working) clutch with working forward and reverse. B) No open rears. C). Transmission must be mounted at the rear of engine and only one drive shaft in permitted. No couplers or overdrives. All cars must have a drive shaft loop/hoop (sling). D). Automatic transmissions are permitted. E). All drive shafts must be painted white. 15. Tires: A) Any brand or compound tire is permitted as long as it doesn't exceed 11" wide and 92" in circumference. The only eligible tires are McCreary CT and Hooiser Economy. The tire must be stamped with 11" on the side wall. 16. Wheels: A) Steel, aluminum, carbon fiber or plastic wheels are permitted. B) Wheels must be mounted with lug nuts. No knock-off mounts are permitted. C) Maximum wheel width is 14". D) Maximum width outside of the front tires is 88". E) Maximum width of the outside of the rear tires is 86" F) No wheels are allowed that do not meet the specifications and tolerances of the Tire and Rim Association. Specifically, no lightweight wheels or oversized wheels which have an increased circumference of the bead flange. 17. Safety: A) A fire extinguisher, with working pressure gauge, should be securely mounted and located within easy reach of the driver. B) Each driver should wear a drivers fire retardant suit, gloves, neck support collar, arm restraints, hood, underwear, sock and shoes. C) No radios or mirrors are permitted for any events. D) Batteries must not be located in the driver's compartment. E) Nylon mesh window nets are highly recommended. F) Racing seats and belts with shoulder harnesses are required. They must be securely fastened to the frame. G) An approved helmet is required. H) Cars must have four wheel, working, hydraulic brakes. 18. Miscellaneous: A) Cars must be in good operational condition and must be presentable in appearance subject to the judgment of the officials. B) No wings or tunnels of any kind are allowed including under the car. C) No adjustable components allowed in the cockpit. D) Tow hooks are mandatory front and rear. E) No wheel drapes or rear-end drapes are permitted. F) No on-board electronic computer systems are permitted. (i.e. traction controlling devices or electronic shock absorbers). NOTE: The rules/regulations set-forth and contained herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduction of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable standards and requirement for said events. These rules shall govern all the events and be participating in said events, all participants deem they are in compliance with these rules. No expressed or implied warranty or safety assurance shall result from the publication of or compliance to these rules or regulations. They are intended as a guide and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to any participant, driver or official.The tech inspector shall be empowered to permit minor deviations from any of the specifications herein or imposes any further restrictions that in his opinion don't meet the minimum acceptable requirements. No expressed nor implied warranty of safety shall result from such alteration of the original specifications. Any or all of the proceeding rules could be subject to change. The officials reserve the right to make the decisions and rule accordingly, in the interest of safety, without recourse. Anything not covered herein by the above rules/regulations will be acted upon by the track officials as situations arise and will then be added as addendum(s) to the existing rules.
